Remember when everybody wore the same uniform? Each branch had their own unique rank insignia but we all wore the same pattern. A few years ago the top dogs said we were headed that way again as a cost saving measure for the DoD. They even stated a deadline, which I don't recall, for the pattern to be proposed and agreed upon. I've heard nothing about it since but I have heard about the Army and Marines working on more designs for themselves. Does anyone know where this is really headed?

I believe the unified force theory is becoming a reality. After leaving active duty Air Force in the early 90's and returning to the Guard, I've noticed a lot of cross over (joint operations wise) during deployments. If this continues it will be hard to distinguish branches and functions on military ops. For continuity purposes it may be easier for everyone to wear the same uniform but who really knows the long term effects? With TFI, BRAC and other initiatives taking place, it would appear that we will have the role of the Soldier, Sailor, Marine and Airman all rolled in to one neat package! Hell, after all the numerous CBT's I've taken, I'm not really sure what I am anymore!

I believe it to look at the various PT uniforms and Fitness standards all are the same just different colors. ll the standards for Fitness are similar. That is why I retired I joined the USAF. If I wanted to join the Army I would have now they seem one in the same!!!

I believe that we should have a single pattern (or two as in MARPAT). I believe they put a deadline of 2017 but I cannot be sure of that.

The DoD see the advantage and cost savings of having one duty uniform for all services. However, they don't say anything when each branch takes that one duty uniform and modifies it to fit their own branch of the service.
