I came across this while doing unrelated research today and thought I would share it. There are programs available throughout the United States which will help Veterans gain the skills they need to get into farming and to improve their knowledge about it. http://www.beginningfarmers.org/beginning-farmer-training-programs/military-veteran-farmer-training/

I raise a small herd of dairy goats on 35 acres. If you don't mind some pointers once you start trying to make money you inevitably attract government attention. Get them on your property before you go for profit and get their opinions before you invest capital in systems that they may come back and say no to. They are far more forgiving when the gave you advice in the first place. Also, don't start selling until you can put out a consistent product.

I actually knew this, when I was installing copiers in the FDA offices in NY State they had literature about this.
