DA PAM 670-1

Section 4-10

Para 2

Wear. Personnel wear the patrol cap straight on the head so that the cap band creates a straight line around the
head, parallel to the ground. The patrol cap will fit snugly and comfortably around the largest part of the head without
bulging or distortion from the intended shape of the headgear and without excessive gaps. No rolling of, blocking, or
alterations to the cap are authorized. The cap is worn so that no hair is visible on the forehead beneath the cap. The
nametape will be worn centered on the hook-and-loop pads on the back of the patrol cap. Soldiers may sew on the
nametape and/or grade insignia as an option. Hook-and-loop fasteners for the nametape may be left on or removed
when sewing it on to the patrol cap

The new 670-1 authorizes nametapes sewn onto the soft cap, and removal of the Velcro. Even though some people were doing this already, it wasn't authorized. It is now. Just something I noticed browsing the new reg.

I have been wearing sewn on name tapes and ranks for three years. That was because, my former PLT SGT wore the uniforms like that. I never knew it wasn't authorized by the regulation. Thank you!

It wasn't NOT authorized before either. The previous ALARACT authorized nametapes to be sewn on to the ACU uniform. PC caps are a component of that uniform.

Dying your ACUs polka-dotted pink isn't NOT authorized in the reg either.

You're right. The ALARACT stated that nametapes can be sew on the ACU. The PC cap is a part of that uniform. Much like your polka dot example, it's a gimme.

It could easily be interpreted as that SSG Hasbun, however it could also easily be interpreted, that since the name tape on the patrol cap was not specifically named in the alaract, it is not.

I do find it annoying that the patrol cap made it into the da pam and not the AR.....
