After spending 3+ years unemployed I found an organization, National Able, located in Chicago. My mentor their kept repeating "are you a known candidate". Take a look at this article. you will find that being the known candidate, your ability to network and put your name out there is key in finding that job. This is only another tool to use in your search, so get out there shake hand, present yourself as the ideal candidate.
Think of it this way, it's an election year, get out there, campaign and become that "known candidate", you might not win the election but you might get that job. You have my vote, good luck.
