Greetings, I'm wanting to share a project I've been working on before I enlisted. I've been pursuing a dream since shortly after the horrors that occurred on September 11, 2001. I'm transforming my 1977 Firebird into a rolling 9/11 Memorial car I call the, "Freedom Firebird Project." I own a 1977 Formula Firebird project car, the same year as the Smokey and The Bandit" Trans Am. The Formula Firebird has a visually distinct difference from the Trans Am by having two large twin hood scoops. I came up with a design that on the hood, will feature the fallen Twin Towers on the hood scoops with the Pentagon behind them. Then, "LET'S ROLL!," will be on the rear spoiler, this way all three Hallow ground crash sites will be represented. Then the face of the Bald Eagle will be on the front, using the headlights as eyes. Then the American Flag will grace the long front fenders, with the rest of the car in traditional Police black and white with red, white, and blue highlights.
Additionally, I plan on having the POW/MIA logo painted on the underside of the hood so when I pop the hood to show the engine, our POW's are,"Not Forgotten!" The car is currently undergoing mechanical restorations on a Junkyard dog's budget. If you Google, "Freedom Firebird Project," I've posted many pictures and writing online; including designated Facebook and GoFundMe pages.
My goal is to complete the car and drive it across country from Denver,CO to all three Hallow Ground crash sites from the 9/11 tragedies. I served actively in Law Enforcement for almost 10 years and recently completed 8 years of service in the Army Reserves, Honorable Discharge. I'm trying to honor my fallen Brothers and Sisters in Blue and in Green and the lives lost on the horrors of 9/11.
America is a car culture and the 1977 Firebird will always be remembered for, "Smokey and The Bandit." However unlike most 9/11 Tribute cars that have been displayed, this is not a newer car with just a fancy paint job and/or a graphics kit. I purchased this car for $400.00 and have been trying to repair it and make improvements on it since. I'm actually on my 2nd Firebird for the Project, having sold the 1st one courtesy of a Jodie/Divorce. I'm just the little man doing this for the little man, the Average American.
I want to make this something that people can cheer for and wave flags for that's Not greed, politically, or otherwise superficially driven.
