SSgt Paul Esquibel Part of my civilian career was spent in QA. Your best bet is to have your son-in-law look at many Quality Inspector job postings to find positions that he is interested in, and find out what skills, experience and training are needed for those positions. Below is information about Quality Inspectors.

What are the duties of a quality inspector?
Quality Inspector Job Description [Updated for 2024]
A Quality Inspector, or QA Inspector, is responsible for reviewing products and materials during manufacturing to make sure they meet company requirements. Their duties include measuring objects compared to their intended physical specifications, running quality tests and identifying defects.

An Air Force 2A6X2 (Aerospace Ground Equipment Specialist) is primarily responsible for maintaining and repairing Aerospace Ground Equipment for providing the aircraft with electricity, hydraulic pressure and air pressure. Much of their time is spent on turbine and diesel generators. The career field allows individuals to gain experience in electronics and mechanics, and their experience can allow those to stay in aviation, or to work in a similar field in electronics.

Not sure of any special certification to get into a QA profession but I would think there would be opportunities for someone with those qualifications.

Sgt (Join to see) I believe gave some excellent advice.
