Loyalty is important, and not understood enough. I would assert that many have not thought about their loyalty hierarchy. Here is a chance to share our self reflection on RP. Can you chart your loyalty hierarchy? Yes or No. Any additional comments would contribute to other folks' understanding of this subject which is part of their personal and professional life.

Have you ever thought of all the loyalties that you carries? Can you chart your loyalty from self, to friend, family, cousins, town, state, nation, ethic/race, religion, ideology, humanity, animal...?

I actually have thought a lot about loyalty as well, SSgt Khanh Pham . I don't know that I have been as honest with myself as you, but mine run something like this; God, Country, Family. Fortunately for me, I've never had to face major conflict between them.

It is good to be honest with one's self. You have a conflict where both the constitution and god claim supremacy clause. However, it is one of those issue that no one will call you out on. So for the moment it is not an issue for you. I hope no one judge someone honest and confident enough to put God before Country. I see people dance around it a great deal.

I will be honest and say that I cannot chart all of my loyalty, but I have charteda simple one prior to making the decision to join the military.

Who I would take a bullet for was decided early on. It have adjusted many times now, but I know my answer before the decisions is needed. I knew my loyalty between US+Vietnam is a conflict that I cannot pick a side to the detriment of the other, and decided I would sit in Jail when the time comes to pick a side to fight on. While many people simply want to play call of duty with other people's live, I had made a lot of tough choices to enlist. Loyalty lines had to be drawn and negotiated prior to picking up arms, and I honestly thought I was going to be a soldier. Fortunately I was spared the turmoil of war, and the situation that will force me to kill.

Here is a simple one, I had added pet, humanity, and animals as I typed it.
Country(Vietnam+US)>Family>friends>self>stranger>pet>humanity-animals>
*on occasions self went before girl friend, but rarely self before friend. I think this was due to the fact that girlfriend takes up a much greater sacrifice, so overall it still matches the structure.
