Yup... Fort Rich is awesome!  The cold is manageable (especially with the extra clothing that you get issued), and you're 10 minutes from downtown Anchorage.  Lots to do off duty:  snowboard, snowmobiling, ski, hunt, fish, etc.  Plus there's some awesome food joints scattered all around Anchorage.  I miss my 3 years there... had a great time!

If you like the cold you will love it, it gets down to below zero quite often during the winter months, it is beautiful in the summer, but don't expect the weather to be nice during the 6 month winter as I called it (October -March) and April and Sept are no picnic either.

The unit cohesion from my experiences is very tight nit, they take care of each other and families like no place I have ever experienced.

It is very good duty, you will enjoy it. Good luck.

SGT Anderson, I've never been there personally, but we do have a ton of RallyPoint members assigned to units based out of there right now.  The link to see them is below.  I would recommend connecting with some of them to help with the PCS there.  Good luck!
