It's been 25 years since the Berlin wall fell. Time sure flies! I will never forget where I was on the evening of November 9, 1989. I was a young PFC stationed at FT. Drum and getting ready for the long four day weekend. I stopped in at my friend's room in the barracks when he had CNN on. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing on TV. People from both sides- East and West, Communists and Capitalists- all together as one partying it up on the Wall, where months earlier, a man was killed trying to escape from East Berlin.
<.br>Where were you when the Berlin Wall fell? Are there any RP members who were stationed in West Berlin at the time? I'd like to hear all of your stories.
I was actually there in 1989 when the wall came down. I was 7 years old And my father was stationed in Frankfurt and took us to the site. We got to chisel pieces of the rock from the wall. I still have them even though they are mostly crumbled. We PCSd to VA a year later and my third grade teacher was talking about the wall one day, I raised my hand to tell her I was there when it came down and she of course didn't believe me. I came back the next day with the pieces of rock and a plethora of pics to her shocking disbelief, but she apologised to me infront of the class. I will never forget that experience.

That must've been awesome to witness history in the making at a very young age.

That is the life of a Military Brat...teachers never believe that kids have been to those places due to their own lack of travel or ignorance.
I was in Germany from 83 to 86 before the wall was torn down...it did not "fall" down. I was back in the Mannheim/Heidelberg area from 96 to 2002. The country had changed alot during that time.
We have a piece of the wall here at Fort Leavenworth in a memorial.

I was on the other end-I was 7 when it went up and my father sent me back to the States. I was in 3rd grade, and my teacher made a comment about the Wall in Berlin, and I asked her what she was talking about. She showed me a Time Magazine cover, and I confirmed where I was when we walked through Brandenburg Gate, where the Russian Memorial was and so on. In 1961 that blew her mind! lol
