General Helms was on tract to get her 4 star, and was ousted from the exclusive club of generals.

I hesitate satisfy my curiousity, we may delete if this subject is inappropriate.

Is the US Air Force ready to accept women? (please dont throw rhetoric around)
what signs would indicate the USAF is ready for an equality under the law? in practice and culture

I'm not fully informed of the full story, but I'm also not entirely convinced that she was passed over based on gender either... Is it possible that she was simply not as qualified as the competition?

I bet there are a lot of individuals out there that are always coming up with excuses, "I got passed for promotion because of the color of my skin, or my religion, or my gender" type scenarios when the reality is more like "you were passed over because you didn't complete your PME, or you are a PFT failure, or you're out of height/weight standards".

Either way, I am positive that no one told her she was denied promotion because she is a woman.

SN Greg Wright And was blocked because she failed to explain why she decided not to charge a Captain that was accused of sexual assault. Yes I do believe that the senator is both very angry and very female, but this isn't the first time it's happened; Gen Craig Franklin did the same thing. Gen Franklin also happens to be very not female.

Both Generals granted clemency to those accused of sexual assault without being involved in the trial and without reviewing the evidence- it also just happened to be that these accused officers were star performers in their duties at the time which begs the question all of us should ask: if you are a rockstar, does that mean you don't have to be held accountable for those less-than-honorable actions? Obviously, that's what happened, and that is a decision that I can agree with the senator on, female or not.

Even if the whole thing is a misunderstanding, the fact that the integrity of a General Officer can even come close to being questioned should warrant being denied a promotion regardless of gender.

SSgt (Join to see) That's all well and good, and for the most part I agree with you, but my point was this: there is no link between the AF's promoting practices and the reason this general didn't get the spot.

SN Greg Wright You are absolutely right, I had to do my research to find out what was going on, the original post was speculation from the outside looking in. Though I must say that integrity, and decision-making abilities should be considered when promoting for any SNCO and Officer ranks, and I think this was handled reasonably well given the circumstances.

I'm not going to lie the first thing I saw when I actually looked at this is that her hair is not even remotely in regulation.

Then I spent an hour looking up female hair regs to see if I was right and I'm even more confused.

Clearly she was not on track to get her fourth star since she didn't get it. What evidence do you have that she might have been passed over due to being a woman? She made 3 stars, that is pretty rare air. There are (ore recently have been) at least two - fours star female Generals in the Air Force. Would the fact that there are two answer your question/ concern?

The AF had nothing to do with it in this case. An angry FEMALE senator blocked her promotion.

Yes the female Senator blocked the female 3 star because she overturned a sexual assault conviction perpetrated by a male pilot on a female. Let that one sink in for a minute.
