Who wants to make a positive change to the United States of America?
Anyone ever thought of changing the way US works, but decided it is too far out of reach? Or that you have to join the political parties?
Lobbyist have money to buy labor to write legislation for government to pass. Lobbyist have the money to send armies of sale person to solicit signature for petitions to go on ballots.
We the people can also lobby, with no money, we can employ labor of love.
From local city legislation, to state, to federal.
While online discussion forum make us feel like we are doing something about issues of important to us, it does not have relevant impact to our lives. Even less so for the future generation.
Only through active participation in the legislation of law, and enforcement of laws can we provide a relevant impact for the future.
Lee Kuan Yew have rocketed his country from rampant corruption to less corruption than USA. In less than 10 years! Regardless of obstacles or reasons, we the American people can also make the efforts to remove corruption from our own government(military/agencies/organization).
I was fortunate to no die in combat. Still, I do not wish for any one else to die in combat. Yet, I will be the first to kill when situation necessitate such action. 36 years of living and I have not kill, is due to positioning my life to in such a way to avoid situation where I have to kill. As a nation, it is also possible to achieve this strategic positioning. For a nation with the world's greatest fire power, it is absolutely possible to achieve this positioning.
DO you want your family to die? Do you want your children to die?
Are you interested in volunteering time to create new laws and legislation by harnessing the power of the people?
What organization are you involved with that make changes? (beside sending money out)?
*To fight lobbyist with money is ensuring our defeat. People must engage them on battle ground other than money.

The first change we need is civility. At the end of the day we are all Americans !

I understand the concept of civility, and I agree. Laws and rules are not actually necessary, however those are what we can objectively measure. One either complies or not complies with the law. The other subject values are debatable and not practical to enforce without being bias toward our personal values.
We should consider that the concept of civility is intangible, changes from person to person, culture to culture. Now that US of A is so diverse, the tolerance for what we may not approve as civil may be tested.
Example, I am a vietnamese. I was called Charlie and Gook by other Airman. That is quite uncivil by common standard due to the fact that my name is neither Charlie or Gook. Add to that is the association of charlie and gook to be enemies of the US during a previous war. The military have rules against these type of actions, speech, and behaviors. The "characters" needed to uphold, enforce, and promote the rules are vastly lacking.
Character defined : how you treat a person that you have nothing to gain from. (not my original idea)
One MSgt have demonstrated that he recognized the wrogness of the action. Laughed, and stated that it is funny. It is also very wrong. I remembered, and it allowed me to grow one more step. The name caller, brushed it off as no big deal and likely did not received the casual lesson on appropriateness. It was civil, yet it was wrong, as well as degrade quality of force.
Again, I think we can freely negotiate our common values, and find a way to be civil and live together. Also, recognizing that laws are needed for enforcement of those values we agreed as common values and to be enforced on all members of society (or military)

SSgt Khanh Pham most legislation originated as personal legislation that was embraced by more and eventually got the attention of legislators.

SSgt. What we need is a bug dose of common sense. We can't compete against the money the lobby brings to the table but the country isn't run by us. DC does not listen to us, you can write a Senator and they can turn it around and never answer the question
