SP5 Jarrod Spears, if you were active duty my first suggestion would be to contact your post Housing Service Office*. Frequently they will have knowledge of safe low-cost housing options in the local economy or possibly established agreements with local private housing providers.
For housing assistance, I suggest you contact your state's Veteran Affairs Office. The name varies from state to state, but usually can easily be found by just putting the state and those terms (i.e., Kentucky Veteran Affairs Office) in an internet search engine. In this case the 'Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs'*.
Speak to a counselor about housing assistance available from the state - they should be knowledgeable about the federal and state programs available for veterans as well as being able to refer you to other programs that could assist (i.e., Section 8 housing which isn't specific to veterans) if you are struggling with housing costs.

There is off-post housing available, with new availability opening up in and around my hometown. I am about 25 minutes from post and I have contacts with those who can offer housing. Send me a back channel RP message if you think you might be interested.

Hopkinsville vet center ( https://vetcoalition.org/org/pennyroyal-veterans-center/ ) has limited capacity, but they also function as resource linkage.
You can also try the housing authority in hopkinsville ( https://www.housingah.org/ ) or clarksville ( https://www.findhelp.org/clarksville-housing-authority--clarksville-tn--hud-public-housing-program/ [login to see] 427712?postal=37040 )
Beyond that, if you are eligible you may check into on-base housing. They have been opening it wider for more folks, not sure what the current requirements are.
