I'm headed to Osan Airbase pretty soon, and I just have a few beginner questions, answers would be greatly appreciated!

1. Regarding a cell phone plan, what is the most popular provider/plan dealing with international calling and data usage?

2. I'm a 94F, and was told by my AIT Sergeants that I most likely will not be doing what I was trained to do, due to the lack of equipment needing serviced, is this true?

3. I've heard there are an abundance of places around base with WiFi, do most of the housing have WiFi available, and how fast is it?

I appreciate all responses

Osan is actually a very nice base I've had the opportunity to visit for week-month trips on 3 occasions. It has developed significantly over the past decade as well.

1. There are a very large number of cell phone providers in the ROK. If you have an unlocked (can usually get your US provider to unlock since you are getting moved overseas) phone that you want to continue to use, you can just get a SIM card and a plan. This is great in case you travel a little from Korea to other places that use SIM cards as well and can just buy minutes, data, etc for a week or month depending on what you're doing. Below is a good link to helping choose phones but check plan prices as well as coverage information before making your decision.

2. As others have answered, if they don't have your equipment then yeah you'll be doing something somewhat related but not what you were trained for. Make the best of it and perform well. Doing well while working out of specialty/rate is a good sign that you are adaptable and ready for promotions.

3. WiFi is very abundant in ROK. As far as housing that has it included, that is hit and miss. Are you allowed to live off base though, or are you required to be on base? For this make sure you check with different housing areas about WiFi if it is important.

Below is a general link about Osan for more information:

I will only be permitted to live on post housing, hearing there is an abundance of WiFi is definitely a plus for my situation. Thank you for the links I'll be sure to check into those.

SPC (Join to see) That's very common, which is why I was checking. Honestly it gives you a lot less to worry about being in a foreign country that doesn't speak English (although a lot do). You should thoroughly enjoy your time there!

Welcome to aboard!
You can grab new cellphone on base and off base. There is a lot of cell phone shop.
Wifi wide, Almost AAFES facility have Wifi capabilities and off base cafe either. Usually internet speed is not bad. Also if you want you can install internet service at your room.
Also according to your MOS, you will assign to 3rd BCD or 35 ADA. Detail duty situation, I have no idea. Lol
Good luck bro!

Thank you SGT! Yes, I'm assigned to 35 ADA. 6-52. Do you recommend any cell phone provider specifically? Oh, and details.. I'm used to those, haha!
