I’m enlisting. I am just wondering what privileges I’ll have in ait at fort Sam Houston. I’m picking combat medic. Will I be able to have a pov? Will I have my phone? How long before weekend passes etc.

You will have privileges granted to you when earned and per the Cadre guidance from the Company Policy. If you drive down to JBSA, do NOT expect to see that car again until graduation. As for Passes, the Army and AIT work in phases. When you get to AIT, you will be in Phase 4. Don't expect to get a Pass until about Phase 5. When that transition takes place, that will be per the Company policy. This also includes when you will be allowed to wear civilian clothes again. As for your phone, also dictated by Company policy.

Honestly, you haven't even hit Basic Training yet so you should probably NOT want to focus on what privileges you may or may not get down the road. You are putting the cart before the horse.

When I went through no one had access to a POV or anything. Taxis can take you anywhere. As far as priviledges those are earned and can be taken away. You will leave your basic training site and board either a bus or a plane and be shipped to Ft Sam. You will not be able to POV. You will still be in a training status. Not sure if you can go out on the town like we did 14 years ago! Foxtrot Falcons !!

Not sure how things are compared to 1997…but all our stuff got locked away. Once we got granted passes it was just some civilian clothes given back to us out of our bags. I’m betting the phones would still be a “no go” until graduation and off to your permanent duty station.

Differant scenario, but my Granddaughter just graduated Basic/AIT at Fort Leonard Wood - Combat Engineers. They had VERY FEW "priveleges," but on Sundays, if their training for that week went well, they were allowed to use their cellphone for 10 minutes or so. NO passes and no access to anything but the PX for personal hygeine items.
It's as it should be - FOCUS on training, nor leisure time off base and definitely, NO POV's.
