Do you care that the Federal Government could be (or is) listening to all phone calls made within the United States?

For one...I don't think the Federal Government could employ that kind of manpower. Secondly...I wouldn't really care if they did if it meant Americans would be safer. My thought is, if you're not talking about doing something illegal, you will not have anything to worry about. Besides...unless they want to hear about football, cars, kids, the weather, work drama, and my mom telling me about her health issues...they will not listen to my phone calls for long anyway.

Yeah, but if I'm trying to have "sexy time" with the wife over the phone, I don't want to hear some deep breathing with a low, raspy voice telling us to keep going. Creepy.

By that logic, you should just install video cameras in every room in your house, including your bathrooms and bedrooms, and live stream it to the government. If your'e not doing anything illegal, you shouldn't care, right? Think how much safer we could be if the government could choose to watch any room in any house in the entire country, and listen to every conversation, right? Well I care, because privacy is protected by the Constitution, and I for one am somebody who cares very much for our freedoms and our Constitution.

I'm not sure that is the same logic whatsoever. I'm convinced that the possibility of the Federal Government listening to private phone calls is on a totally different playing field than the possibility of them watching citizens use the restroom, bathe, and "sleep" in their bedroom. I tell you what though...if while listening to a phone call they happen to hear someone talking about bombing a federal building, school, police department, recruiting station, or anything else for that matter...I say that person's house is now free game for video surveillance. Matter of fact...that's how it works right now. And while I value the freedoms provided to us by the U.S. Constitution, it wasn't written when home made bombs could take out modern city blocks...or when phones existed for that matter.

Gentlemen,
Reminds of when someone would say, "What do you need rights for? Are you up to something?"
