I just found out I had a miscarriage yesterday but Im in the process of getting my orders deleted from an overseas assignment. Will they still be able to cancel my orders or now that my baby is gone will I have to follow through with my orders?

SSG (Join to see), I'm sorry for your loss and what you must be going through right now.

The guidelines for overseas assignments are covered in AR 614-30*. Specific to your situation is 5-3e, "At the end of a pregnancy, (miscarriage, abortion, full term) and period of convalescence, the Soldier may be returned to an OCONUS area if she has not been credited with a completed OCONUS tour and travel is not medically contraindicated by a postpartum physical profile."

So, can you have oversea orders cut for you? Yes.
Will they? Depends.
If so, when? Longer answer...

The Army will give you the time you need to take care of yourself and your family. The convalescent leave period depends on how far along in your pregnancy you were before miscarriage occurred. This is covered in enclosure 3 of Army Directive 2022-06 (Parenthood, Pregnancy, and Postpartum).*

If required (again, depends on the length of your pregnancy), I believe you'll have to be given clearance by your medical provider in order to return to full duty and be eligible for overseas movement.

Bottom line: It's going to largely depend on what your medical provider says and how far along in your pregnancy you were. If you're cleared by your medical provider, then nothing will prohibit a new overseas assignment for you after convalescent leave is completed.

SSG (Join to see) As an RN that has taken care of patients in your situation, I cannot express it enough that you must be your own best advocate in following COL Randall C. guidance. The Army cares about your situation but there are a lot of pieces in this very large machine and people do get lost. OB providers are some of the best at listening and taking care of their patient needs, if they will still see you after the OB issue is resolved, push them for your needs. Get your primary care involved as well and remember, you can get post partum depression and lit says it can happen up to six months after the end of any pregnancy. Advocate for yourself.

MAJ Byron Oyler Thank you for the advice Sir. I’m in a dark place because of this. I plan to try to get pregnant again as soon as I can which will probably be before March so I just don’t want to go through the process of cancelling my orders again when I do get pregnant.

I am so sorry for your loss. First, does the military know about the loss of your child. COL Cudworth provided all of the regulatory information. I recommend that you go on regular sick call immediately if the loss occurred off base. That of course after an immediate phone call to your command.

Your health is number one, unit notification is paramount so that everything you need is supported and followed.

Once properly informed and under deliberate medical care you have the tools provided by the COL to ensure things go as they should once you start working with your S1 and branch.

God Soeed again, I am so sorry for your loss.
