The Patient Viewer app is envisioned as a big efficiency booster, said Dr. Kathy Frisbee, co-director of the Connected Health program inside the Office of Informatics and Analytics at the Veterans Health Administration. Currently, appointments with multiple providers mean multiple log-ons in examination and hospital rooms, which can add three minutes per provider to the time it takes to see a patient. With a mobile app, doctors, nurses and technicians will have their own devices in hand, all with access to the same record. Patient Viewer also allows providers to write to the Vista record.

I recommend to all veterans which I have conversation with to enroll in MyHealthe Vet with VA. I get to send secure (if there is such an animal anymore) messages to my provider, reorder meds or email my provider if a new script needs to be written as well as "Blue Button" download and print copies of labs and clinical notes. No longer having to wait in the long lines at the Release of Information desk. No longer having to wonder what my lab values are, waiting until my next Primary Care visit. Of course, I don't understand the numbers, but the report does provide highs/lows ranges for all tests and reflects those that are out line. Enables me to e-mail my provider prior to my next appointment if there is something of concern. I usually Google the data, which is not recommended, but it does help for me to understand a little bit.
If you haven't enrolled in the free MyHealthe Vet system at your VA, next time you are there, ask for the MyHealthe Vet enrollment clerk. He/she will gladly help you out.
