Hello, I am about to ETS out of the National Guard. I wanted to know if 18x is closed off to E5s and above I am picking up E5 soon and I keep hearing conflicting information from different recruiters, any clarification would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Don't go for 18X, the fail rate from the pipeline is ridiculously high. Statistically, you will fail. If you take 18X and fail you'll be reclassed to the needs of the Army and stuck with a five year contract.
Select a job you want and are willing to do for several years. When you get to your first duty station head to the SOF recruiter and get a selection date. If you pass, you go to the Q Course, if not you go back and make your next move

Respectfully, I just wanted to ask if I should consider getting my 5 before going 18x. I'm planning on taking the contract regardless, I just wanted that question answered.

SGT (Join to see) last year Recruiting failed its mission by 25%, I don't think prior service business rules are going to be that restrictive this year. You'll only know by talking to a current recruiter

SGT (Join to see) that's fine, I'm just passing on the knowledge that it's a bad decision and why. There's a saying among recruiters that the 18X program is the Army's most successful program for filling unwanted MOS's. The 82d, 173d, and SF Group are filled with 18X drops. If I was to offer to sell you a very expensive sports car that you could pay off over the next five years, but the catch is there's about a 90% chance it will break on you permanently within the first year, you would call that a bad deal. But people will do just that with 18X because "I'm not going to fail/quit/get hurt".
You do you, the Army needs Recruits to fill boots, and it's hard to fill airborne cook fueler MOS's without this program. Good luck, hopefully you defy they odds

SFC (Join to see) - Roger SFC (Join to see) SFC, as of now the recruiters I'm speaking to are telling me it's still very restrictive. I hope it does relax as the new fiscal year goes on

Despite what others may say, if you feel convicted to Serve as a special operations Soldier then give it a shot. I will not preach to you about failure rates because I know that you already know the consequences of not making the cut. I too have dealt with naysayers in my life but I ignored them and now I enjoy tremendous success from my hard work and dedication. That said, here is a helpful reference: https://www.goarmysof.army.mil/
Best of luck to you!
