Soldiers are being told they cannot wear Multicam even though the Department of the Army has authorized the change. Thoughts?

Just curious, if the Department of the Army and SMA sent out an ALARACT stating that on July 1st that Multicam and the Scorpion are both authorized for wear until 30 September 2019, then why can some commands tell soldiers they are not authorized? Are units allowed to accept or reject an ALARACT as they see fit?

I can understand where some Commands are coming from from the aspect of having a unit that is all the same uniform but I don't agree with it fully. Change is gonna happen, it happened in the mid 2000's and its happening now. Now if there is a formal event like a CoC, then one uniform probably would be appropriate but for every day use, let the Soldiers transition into the future.

I completely agree, allow Soldiers to feel like Soldiers again and put this ACU debacle behind us and look to the future. If anything, atleast in the field since Multicam works so much better. Just my experience as a Scout PLT Squad Leader.

I agree, everyday and field usage at first minus ceremonies and CoC's until everyone has their allotted clothing bag required numbers.

Well, I know that in OCS, there were lots of different uniforms that were floating around. All of them were authorized for wear, and you can't penalize soldiers for using the gear that the Army has authorized them to wear. I don't see how you can accept or reject ALARACTs at-will. To do so would be anarchy, and the Army despises anarchy.

Commanders dictate the uniform for their formations. It's not "unauthorized" it's just not the uniform of the day.

Understandable for a formation like a COC, no question, dress right dress. But Commands should be allowing soldiers to transition into the future, especially in the field where Multicam works so much better. It's time to get away from this ACU debacle and allow soldiers to feel like soldiers again with a proper uniform. Whether Commands like it or not change is coming. Very soon OCP goes in the Basic Training bag and new soldiers will report to their units wearing OCP. What are they going to do, make them buy ACU?

Nope, if you weren't issued it they can't make you wear it. There will probably be either phased pushes of the OCP like what we did when marpat came out or you'll get a little bit extra on your uniform allowance to purchase a set or two.
