Pima Community College has settled a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice on behalf of an Arizona National Guard soldier who was denied a promotion in the college's public safety department.
College police officer Timothy Stoner had contended he was discriminated against because of his military service, which include deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The college denies in the settlement that it discriminated against Stoner based on its refusal to promote him to corporal or that it violated a federal law on employment rights of military personnel.
Under the settlement, Stoner will be promoted and receive back pay for lost wages.
The Justice Department announced the settlement Thursday.
