Gov. Scott Walker has signed a bill that makes lying about military service a crime.
The Republican bill makes falsely claiming military service or a military award a misdemeanor punishable by up to nine months in jail and $10,000 in fines.
If someone makes those claims intending to commit or aid another crime he or she would be guilty of a felony punishable by up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
Walker signed the bill Wednesday.
The Assembly passed the measure in April. The Senate followed suit in May.

I'd only ask that our service members don't go vigilante on this stuff. Stolen valor is an issue but keep cool when dealing with it.

Many times it was the troops that make a shirt or bath robe up for him. Wish I could have seen one of his shows. We were so far out, there were no shows provided, just cans of old movies. Much later on Adak we did get "B Circuit" stuff like no-name bands and, wait for it, Huston Oiler Cheerleaders.

It's hard to not want to kick some butt. I get really heated when I see this person!

I have been on my motorcycle and had someone accuse me of being a "wanna be" soldier. You see, I wear the American Legion Riders patch, along with ARMY above it. I actually had to pull out my VA card to show that I was a vet.
Sadly, some people take it too far.

A fake...is a fake...is a fake. Go Wisconsin, thank you for you leadership.

* This is a complete non-issue. Anyone who has ever served can spot a fake in about 30 seconds, and should take appropriate action. Perhaps someone should ask Gov. Walker to do something about the homeless, jobless vets in his state instead of wasting time on asshats and pogues

I agree completely it isn't a problem to spot a fake. But something has to be done about the vets who once out of service are left with nothing. They need our help more than anyone else

We can spot them, but most civilians can't. This law would provide punishment for thieves trying to receive special benefits from places like restaurants and retailers.

Most homeless people want to be homeless. Just because you are a veteran does not give you special dispensation. Take a look at all the EBT's, Section 8 housing, free cell phones nd the list goes on. If they are mentally ill as a result of military service send them to the VA. I had a legless bum in Atlanta that saw my cap with the CIB and Purple heart say "Hey, help a fellow veteran?" I told his arse to go to the VA.
