How long after I receive my discharge orders from the Army Reserve will I receive a copy of my DD256 (discharge certificate)?

My brother received his discharge certificate from the National Guard about 1 year after he left.

Have you completed your 8 year MSO ? I received mine after my 6 yr obligation was complete. (6 yr was prior to all volunteer army)

The last Draft was 1973, I enlisted in Oct. 1982 and I enlisted with a 6 year MSO. That didn't change until June of 1984 and it wasn't retroactive to those already in the service. My point being that it was 11 years after the last draft before it was changed.

You probably won't receive one if you were transferred into the IRR. It doesn't matter, it's not a source document in any way, for proving service, it's just for show.
