I've been watching the social media and the network news in regards to SSM (Same Sex Marriage) and I, for one am tired of all the hate I'm seeing in our country. I think most of us forgot our history lessons and think too highly of ourselves. What's your thinking on this?

I guess all I can say is if you don't like Same Sex Marriage, don't get Same Sex Married.

Exactly the same as a heterosexual couple, if two consenting adults love each other, and would spend the rest of their lives together regardless of their marital status, then I am all for same sex marriage.

It has been my pleasure to have met many same sex couples, and one thing that I have noticed over the years is that, their Love is every bit as real and as deep as any heterosexual couple that I have met. I believe that they deserve to have the exact same rights to be happy and to marry.

I appreciate your realisted expression of SSM. I am a living proof that it has worked find, no differance than other marriages. Full Comittment is Full Comittment. Yes, our parents eventuly accepted us with open arms. I will someday marry again, in time.

SFC Everett Oliver - There are a list of reasons people use for why they think, say, or do things that have no business being used...in my opinion ever, but at a minimum if what your are trying to justify is meant to affect anyone besides literally only yourself.

Those are, in no particular order, and I am sure this list is not all inclusive...

1. That's what my parents said/taught me

2. That's how we've always/traditionally done it.

In both of these situations it makes the person making the statement come off as if they believe that their parents (in example 1), or "they/we" the group (in example 2) know everything there is or was to know about the topic, and there is no way that anything that wasn't thought of or known before could exist.

In my opinion, these statements are on par with "Those are my beliefs and nothing anyone can say will change my mind.*", and only slightly better because worded as in my examples or what you typed, they explain why you think what you think, but do not specifically state that you refuse to change your mind. They do, however, imply it.

It may not actually mean this, but it also makes the person making the statement come across as someone that there is no point in talking to because (see above).

* I addressed this statement (REMOVED:earlier today) yesterday in this thread: (https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/polygamous-marriage-could-be-legalized-next-what-s-your-thoughts-what-is-america-s-direction?urlhash=776766)

SSG (Join to see) - Believe what you will. But if more parents taught their children decent morals the world would be one hell of a better place today. Do have a nice day.

They sure would! Especially to acknowledge that half civil rights for your step son is not in line with teaching those good morals. Giving a child a loving home is a great thing no matter who you love. SFC Everett Oliver

I have enjoyed the security in my SSM. We were monogamus all 21 years. We both are Veterans of Vietnam. He died 5yrs ago. I would like to meet someone and see if they are ready, as much as I am. A comittment is to be Respected by 2 people to be successful. SSGT Don Bramley
