Question; if you have 18 1/2 AFS and on active duty orders, will your command permit your unit to keep you on ADOS til you reach 20 AFS?

Command can't grant sanctuary, that's an Army program, you have to apply for it through HRC. There's a page on HRC on the process

MAJ (Join to see) - Also, I should point out that you can't be placed on ADOS to retire. There's usually a blurb in the orders that specifically state that, or something to that effect.

SFC (Join to see) - If you are over 17 years AFS, you would need a waiver approved by Director, ARNG, or Chief, Army Reserve prior to getting a long term ADOS order.
Essentially the branch chief would have to agree that the requirement for that order, and the Soldier approaching sanctuary is mission critical enough to warrant HRC buying a retirement for an otherwise non-active duty Soldier.
Other than the counterdrug program, that answer is typically no.
