I once totaled a car. It was several days before I could recall the accident. I think it is due to shock. Of course a brain injury could also be a factor. But, in my case there was no injury.

I can only say that after my own situation whereby that I have more than 9+ concussions that memory loss is real for me. Firsthand, I will say I have short-term memory issues from moderate to severe. For example, if you explain a detailed or technical task to me today by tomorrow or later that day I will have forgotten how to do it. That's the great impact on my life and its extremely difficult and frustrating. I have to write down many things and its a major challenge to remember more than one or two things. Before my concussions/TBI I was able to recall names recent incidents. Now I will almost immediately be incapable of remembering a name or a recent incident unless I have written the name or information down. If tha aids in answering your question.
