I've never heard of that being applied to a Soldier. I'm curious as to the context of this question

It's part of the ERB under assignment history. Whenever you're deployed, your Duty Title should receive a FWD designator.

See attached for reference.

SFC Michael Hasbun - Well, I'll be darned. None of my deployment assignments have that on my ERB. I just learned something new

MSG (Join to see) - My day we had a 201 Field File, not an ERB, that we carried from station to station. A copy was always posted to DA at the same time you were given your copy to carry. On arrival at their new duty station, there was another copy of the 201 presented to receiving unit sent to DA. I always felt this was to keep people from changing their 201 by pencil-whipping changes into the file.
I found that nugget when I was promoted enroute and DA sent orders of my rank promotion to my new unit after my carried (and presented) 201 file did not match the DA's copy.

SFC Ralph E Kelley - In a way, I miss the old days of 201 files

In the AF I actually had that put on my orders and when I asked about it, it meant I could be forward deployed out of the rear echelon base I was going to.

Yes, in relation to the SRB assignment history - that is how deployments/mobilizations have been labeled. Because reserve and NG do not get transfer orders when MOBing, the (FWD) is used to indicate location other that unit address.
