Recently individuals performing MTI and MTL duties have been given a lot of flack for activities performed by the few. Sexual assault and other forms of abuse have been reported within the past few years in waves, and it may not be the systems fault. Should the individuals being chosen for these special duties be screened more to prevent further flack on the individuals who follow the rules; or is there another solution?

Biggest mistake they ever made was pulling non-vol folks for this duty.

You need to have a drive to do these jobs....and although you can teach the basics in-and-out of the grind you can not teach the desire to perform them.

Same holds true for IDMTs and i'm sure many other special duties out there.

This would be a perfect Volunteer position if you are non deployable due to injury.

This is really an outdated question. Are you familiar with the Developmental Special Duty (DSD) process? Today's MTI/MTL has to be vectored through their Command Chief before being placed into any special duty to include PME, AETC Instructor, etc. Minimum rank to be an MTI is E6...not sure about MTL...so I think your question is about 4 years too late.

Another HUGE mistake was taking the drill sergeants out of AIT.
