So currently I'm at Fort. Meade in Maryland for AIT . I graduate in June as a 25R, soon to be a 46T in October, and as of right now, my soft orders say I'm supposed to go to Fort Bragg in August. It's my first duty station, and I'm excited to go. My question is, what is, or has been, your favorite duty station?

Once upon a time the Army suckered SSG O'Mally, who had just had a HORRIBLE tour of duty and was dead-set on getting out, to re-enlist with two magical words: Melbourne, Florida.

My re-up NCO told me I had to re-enlist because I came down on orders. I told him where he could stick his orders. He insisted. I then used more colorful language. He told me to come see him when I got back from training. I went to see him, read the orders, and asked how soon I could re-enlist.

It was a magical place: A tiny detachment working at a civilian facility and living on the Air Force Base about 10 miles away. No duty rosters, motor pool Mondays (although there was ONE vehicle to maintain), formations for the sake of formation, or any other bureaucratic BS. Alas, that duty assignment ended far too quickly.

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney - Truly amazing how inflated the cost of living has gotten. On the flip, prior to the Vietnam War, veterans received very little for their injuries.

It Was NOT Unusual For The Married Ranks Of E-5 And Below To Be On Government Food Assistance As Well As Government Income Assistance....And Most Wives HAD To Work Outside The Home ~~~And Very Few Single Airmen Owned An Automobile...
We Used Public Transportation When Off Base... And I Hitch-Hiked Quiet A Bit As I Was Broke Most Of The Time.

SGT Wesley Bielinski - Yup, Griffis was the bomb for us Army Aviation stations. Was a great assignment. I considered it my healing time from my Germany unit.

In 1964-65 , I Was Stationed At OSAN AFB, South Korea...
BEFORE The Roads Were Paved, When We Lived In Quonset Huts, The Tiny Down Town Of Osan Was Constructed Mostly, From Scrap Materials Collected After The War, And It Was An Adventure In History....

I Hooked Up With A South Korean Soldier; QUAN,Who Escorted My Butt All Over South Korea, Even To Several Mountain Communities Where They'd Never Seen Anyone EXCEPT Other Koreans & Blue Eyes Were Fascinating....
Google Osan Now & You'd Think You Were Down Town Los Angeles...
Sorry Kids, Ya Missed Some Great Adventures..

PLUS Several Chogie Flights To Japan (Chogie Flights = Short Flights)...
For My Services I Was Issued Base Pay, Over Seas Pay, Hazardous Duty Pay, And Isolated Hardship Duty Pay .. Added All Together: Totaling : $173.00 Per MONTH; In MPC...(Military Pay Currency)

I Signed Up ON My 17 Th Birthday (06/29/1961) So I Was STILL 20 Years Of Age Upon Honorable Discharge On 06/10/65 Making It A Several Days Wait To Legally Buy A Beer When I Hit 21..
Life's A Blast IF You Let It Happen & Don't Try Screwing Around With It......

MSG Richard Medina - ... In 1965, On June 10th Is When I Returned From Korea & Received My Honorable...,I Was Still 20 Years Of Age.
19 Days Later I Bought My First LEGAL Rum & Coke, Stateside.
But When I Was 14 I Lived In Panama With My Brother & His Family... And Began Social Drinking As All People Did. There Was No Drinking Age I Can Recall, But If There Was, It Was Never Enforced....The Joke Was: "If You're Tall Enough To Put Your Money On The Bar, You're Tall Enough To Order A Beer"
