Its huge!
What I've found after nearly 30 years of service is that those that invest in their future (educationally/financially and etc.) are much less likely to get into trouble and more likely to be responsible and productive members in the unit. You cannot buy back the power of compounding interest!
It's a very important part of their overall plan!

When I was on active duty it was enough they paid their bills. Most of my E4 and below were eligible for various forms of welfare. Especially married and some E5s.

I hate that some of our Vets are homeless and the majority of these veterans had wished they had a plan. I know because they told me so on Saturday. Leaders do not talk about money with their Soldiers. It is left up to the "professionals," (financial advisors). A new troop comes to a new unit what I hear no-a-days is "we are gonna send you to the financial advisor so that you can make a budget plan." Then want to come to their first line when they need an AER loan.
This was for my Vets without a home whom wished they had a plan. That's all :)
