If we paid into the Montgomery GI Bill, do we get the money back once we use our allotment for the Post-9/11 GI Bill?

We were told we would get back what we paid into the Montgomery GI Bill, minus the top-up, and I want to know if that is still accurate

From personal experience way back in 2013, I did not get money back. I paid into Montgomery GI Bill back in 1997 with partial use from 2001-2004 for undergraduate school. I talked to VA about using Post 9/11 GI Bill in 2013 for graduate school. The VA counselor told me that I would get partial Post 9/11 GI Bill based on additional service after ROTC and remaining Montgomery, but no refund.
If anyone else on RP has additional info or different experience, I yield to them. Talk to VA to confirm if policies changed in any way.

Thank you LTC, that is a help! I used TA while I was in, and switched to the Post-9/11 when I got out (2016). With the changes they have made to the Post-9/11 I wasn't sure about the Montgomery. I will follow your advice and contact the VA Benefits team. Thank you again for your comment and your advice.
