Regarding Presidential candidates, what income or net worth do YOU believe places them "out of touch" with the "common" man?

One can be very wealthy and very down to earth. In fact, being grounded with the "common" man is what helps a lot of people become very successful.

The cost of campaigning these days requires deep pockets and the media outlets get fat from it. I suspect there are wonderful and honest candidates we will never hear from because they couldn't but their way in. Assets in the billions...that's a whole lot of attention, but may not translate to a whole lot of votes.

I don't think it's about income. Even I am out of touch with the financial struggles of most Americans, and I'm not rich.

Interesting you use Mitt Romney as an example who is not running. Other then Mr Trump, here is some of the other 2016 candidates.
Hillary Clinton: $5.2 Million+
The former secretary of State and U.S. senator from New York reported holding assets worth at least $5.2 million and as much as $25.5 million in 2012, the most recent data available. In 2007, the last time Clinton filed financial disclosures as a member of the U.S. Senate, she indicated she was worth between $10.4 and $51.2 million, making her the the 12th wealthiest member of the U.S. Senate at the time.
Ted Cruz: $3.2 Million
The Republican U.S. senator from Texas, an attorney reported holding net assets worth between $1,913,037 and $4,670,000 in 2013. The Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan watchdog group, has estimated his net worth at precisely $3,171,518, placing him in the top half of the Senate and the top third of all members of the House and Senate.
Rand Paul: $2.5 million
As an American senator, Rand Paul's net worth is low compared to other US senators. In 2012 Rand Paul's income was $300,000 from his salary as a senator $174,000, book royalties, from Rand Paul PSL, and from rental properties. Besides, Rand Paul also having many assets from cash to properties.
Jeb Bush: $1.3 Million+
When Bush left the Florida governor's mansion in 2007, the Republican reported holding assets worth more than $1.3 million. Since then he's reportedly earned millions more in the private sector in what has been described by journalists and pundits as a "rush to make money."
Marco Rubio: $916,120
Rubio, reported a negative minimum net worth of about $190,000 on his financial disclosure statement for 2012. That’s an improvement from 2011, when he reported a negative net worth of $422,000, party due to home-related mortgages and loans.

I used Mitt Romney to specifically avoid this year's candidates while giving an obvious example from the previous cycle.

That has to do with living within your means, IMHO.

Maybe. But my wife and I are both professionals with corresponding professional salaries. For instance, the median income in our area is about $45,000/year while our combined income is very nearly triple that. So are we rich, can we spend whatever we want, buy expensive cars, etc, without a care? Not by a long shot. We still worry about saving, retirement contributions and the like. It does mean, though, that we don't ever have to worry about how our bills will get paid, what will happen if one of our cars breaks down, or any other number of usual concerns. The fact that we don't worry about those things puts us on a different playing field from most Americans and places us out-of-touch with their common struggles.
