I was there for four years. I would say, don't bother with trying to ship a vehicle. It's cheaper and easier to buy one there. Do learn some Japanese. All the Japanese people on post speak English but it will help you when are out and about. And finally, get off post and go places. There is a lot to see and do there.

Camp Zama is in a great location, 10 minute walk from the train station, and 45 minute train ride to Tokyo. I was stationed there and worked in the TMC you are headed to for 3 years. The workload isn't too bad there, although while I was there they messed with the Ambulance duty schedule and it threw everything off for a bit, but it was fixed when I left. The building was supposed to go through some major renovations before I left, and should be complete by now. Single soldier barracks are new and nicely setup with most having their own kitchen with stoves. If you have any specific questions just let me know I'll do my best to answer them.

SGT (P) Robida,
Hows the schedule like at the TMC? I heard that one may work like 4 days and have some days off. Is this true? And how are the on base housing like?

There's a few FB groups for Camp Zama that have really good information on what to bring. I live off base, but I've seen pictures of mold issues with some of the housing on base. I'd recommend a dehumidifier.
