Yes, you can have braces in any service, but you are non deployable for the entire time you have them

I saw quite a few Marines end up with braces while I was in. It was generally SNCOs who were careerists though. I also saw a lot of folks getting permanents as well. I also know of a few folks who were released at Boot Camp because their teeth and gums were so bad the Navy Dentists basically said it would take too much to fix their situation.

I was in a TRADOC unit at FT Gordon in 89 and was not permitted to get them because my teeth weren't bad enough and there was always a chance of deployment. I only wanted the gap in my front teeth closed up so the dentist came up with a compromise.
