Will I have to give up my orders if I volunteered for airborne?

Hey guys, j have a buddy here at AIT who is a reclass (tdy in route) and already used orders to Korea for when he graduates. He was able to volunteer for airborne while he was here (through the school is easier) but is concerned that he may not get to keep Korea, especially if his wife is in the Army too and got Korea under the MACP.
Will he just go to the airborne school and off to Korea per his orders or will big Army probably utilize his airborne qualification and put him in an airborne unit?! Thank you.

Are you sure he actually got an ATRRS slot to Airborne school, or someone just said he could go. Anything is possible, but not likely. He would have to have his branch manager contact retention branch to amend his assignment instructions, he would have to contact MPD to get a new set of orders, then his DTS people to get another 1610.
There is one single 42A airborne position in Korea, so it's not impossible, just unlikely. If he did go to Airborne school he would be placed onto an airborne follow on assignment.

We are both at the 35F course in Huachuca. We haven’t got an actual ATRRS slot yet, we just finished the physical for airborne school and are waiting to get slotted.

SGT (Join to see) your buddy will most likely not be going to Airborne school. Being TDY mid - PCS is completely different from being an IET reclass.
There are no 35F airborne positions in Korea, so you would not be going to Korea if you get a class seat.

Volunteering for Airborne isn't a particular unit but a career so if he gets diverted its because there is more need for him at an Airborne unit and then that will be priority. If he fails Airborne training he will be reassigned to an available slot - not necessarily in Korea but once again in accordance with the needs of the Army.

They probably wont cancel his korea orders, but he can bank on getting an airborne assignment after that. There are a lot of S1s in 82nd hurting on mapower.
