Waiting for a gun permit?? You might have to wait in line. Something that is supposed to be issued in 30 days might have caused this young lady's death as "...she was still waiting for Berlin Township Police Chief Leonard Check to approve the gun permit she had applied for on April 21."

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/06/10/no-one-helped-her-nj-woman-murdered-by-ex-while-waiting-for-gun-permit/

//“She should have been granted that permit in a timely matter, especially given her status as a domestic violence victim,” said Evan Nappen, a New Jersey-based attorney who specializes in Second Amendment cases."//

And apparently, she could've been faced with a lose lose situation because "if Bowne had obtained her permit and used a gun to protect herself, she could theoretically be facing charges today because she would not have been allowed to legally carry the gun outside with her."

Good Lord, I wish, in this instance, the lady would've broke the law and carried it illegally. She was trying to do everything by the book and now she has passed away. What a LOAD OF BS!

PEOPLE, protect yourselves!!!

Should her family be able to sue the State? Why or Why not??

Evan Nappen is known throughout NJ as an attorney specializing in firearms cases.. You don't want him to be your adversary. This case is sad. The girl saw it coming a mile away. This is a tragedy that should have never happened..

Restraining Orders aren't worth the paper they are written on. Domestic violence is already addressed in countless laws, statutes, and ordinances. Seems like every day I read where another victim has been assaulted or worse by someone who ignored a RO.

As someone mentioned before, we could play "What If" for years on end and not reach a firm conclusion. What I CAN tell you is this: Speaking as a former LEO, you have a better chance of protecting yourself by being armed, staying alert, and knowing your surroundings.

I carry a firearm specifically because I have suspects who have threatened bodily harm to myself and/or my family. My firearm saved my life on one occasion since the suspect made a hasty retreat when he discovered I was armed and ready for his attack.

Best advice I can give to anyone is learn self defense, carry some means of defending yourself (OC spray, weapon, tazer, etc), KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS, and stay alert with your head on a swivel. Some situations can be avoided if you know the aggressor is there. Sometimes you have to meet force with force to survive.

I believe if she would have had the gun, although illegally, that she would have acquitted of murder and would've probably paid some fines. IF

But, the big argument is the timing and how she would've gotten into trouble anyway because the firearm would've left her house. That makes no sense! Not in these cases.

A tragedy to say the least. Why was the permit held up so long? Not sure if a civil suit could be won but based on how seriously backed up NJ's gun laws are after reading the article, I'm going to bank on the fact that she will be the face of gun law reform in the state.

You are probably correct. As a family member, I would want justice about every way possible. I wish this young lady was carrying regardless. And did you read where she might've gotten into trouble anyways had she fired and killed him?? I mean, she was in a lose lose situation here.

Yes I saw that SGT (Join to see), now THAT seemed stupid beyond belief. You can have a gun but can't carry it outside even on your own property. DUH?
