Have you successfully translated your military experience into the civilian job you dreamed of?

We all know you have to put in the necessary time and effort in order to be successful in any endeavor. In business I believe that we have both distinct advantages and a different set of challenges than our counterparts who didn't serve. I'm interested in hearing your perspectives. Thank you.

I cant say the Military specifically got me my dream job. But it lead me in the right direction and after getting my degree I got the job that has lead me to what I was striving for. I will say the my Military back ground helped me navigate the political atmosphere of my job and certainly provided me with the will to succeed. I do strongly suggest using your time and getting a degree in what you desire to do.

The trouble I seem to run into is in the translation of Military jobs and experiences into more civilian terms. This seems to be hard (at least for me) to translate what I did into easier to read civilian terms without loosing any of the importance of the work. HR and Personnel Administration seem to have different definitions between the two. Or maybe this is just my own lack of proper resume format. I have tried many different "systems" that are supposed to help.
