No. You may not mix and match patches or any items intended for ACUs. Only items that may be worn with both uniforms are t shirts, boots and belt and those too must be the same (tan with tan, coyote with tan 499 shirt).

Sir, actually according to the Army G1 who published a Q and A you can wear either color of boots with either color or t-shirt in the OCP ACU uniform. I wondered myself and had to find the answer because I didn't want to be wearing the wrong uniform configuration. Let's ensure this soldiers are aware of this.

SFC McGee, you can't mix patches with either uni and maybe my response was confusing. Yes you can wear tan items with ocp but the G1's intent was to emphasize wearing tan with tan and "new" brown 499 ( or) whatever the new name is) with "new" brown for consistency of appearance. I appreciate the clarification!

MAJ you are incorrect.
'The Army also has two different colored T-shirts available for wear under their ACU. There is the "sand-colored" T-shirt and the "Tan 499" T-shirt. Belts are also available in both of those colors. Boots are available in sand or coyote colors, as well.

The rule here, Commons said, is that when a Soldier is wearing the UCP ACU, he or she must wear the undershirt, belt and boots designed for wear with the UCP ACU. However, when Soldiers wear the Operational Camouflage Pattern ACU, they can wear "any combination" of boots, belt and T-shirt, in any of the available colors; the boots, belt, and t-shirt do not have to match each other.

Commons caveated that, however, by saying "both your left and right boot must be the same color."'

Now regarding Cold Weather gear:
'Soldiers don't need to freeze so as to avoid a uniform faux pas, however, the Army wants Soldiers to know that it's okay to wear the foliage green fleece cold-weather jacket and other UCP cold-weather gear on top of their new Operational Camouflage Pattern uniform.

"Soldiers should continue to use the equipment they have been provided to remain safe and warm in environments that call for it," said Sgt. Maj. Eva M. Commons, uniform policy sergeant major, Army G-1. "This is why the Army gives you this gear to wear."
...
Commons said that no matter what ACU Soldiers are wearing - the one in UCP pattern or the one in Operational Camouflage Pattern - they are allowed to wear the winter-weather gear that is issued by the CIF.'

-----
So in summary each layer is to be treated as uniform, the "old" fleece may be used with the new OCP but it (fleece) must have color-coordinated patches/nametapes...

You may mix-and-match shirt/belt/boots colors but only with the new OCP uniform.

Good Day

ALARACT 086/2015 (which expired 15 MAY 2016) directed G-1 to incorporate it in DA PAM 670-1 (10 APRIL 2015) NLT 1 JULY 2015. They did on 25 May 2017, which now says that the U.S. Army insignia and the nametape must be of a "camouflage pattern that matches the uniform." Whereas the ALARACT specified "INSIGNIA AND ACCOUTERMENTS" must match, the DA PAM which supersedes the expired ALARACT only restricts the US ARMY and nametape. There is no such restriction for unit or combat patches other than they must be "subdued."

The Army sure could save individual Soldiers a lot of money on patches if the just stopped changing the color shade of patches every time they change from DCU to ACU to Multi-Cam. Maybe in garrison we should just wear the colored unit patches just like Soldiers from WWI to early Vietnam Days did when in Garrison. With the US Flag already in normal Color it wouldn't look that bad! What are you supposed to do to get the right shade FWTS patch when it's from a Desert Storm era or inactivated unit i.e. 5,6,7,8,9 ID; 2,3 AD; 7th Corps and now 5th Corps). Just a thought!

Or they could just stop changing the uniform in general. It’s ridiculous

IAW ALARACT 085/2015; SUBJ/ALARACT 085/2015 – TRANSITION TO OPERATIONAL CAMOUFLAGE PATTERN ARMY COMBAT UNIFORM (ACU) ENSEMBLE...........

"5. (U) INSIGNIA AND ACCOUTERMENTS WORN ON THE ACU MUST BE OF THE CORRESPONDING CAMOUFLAGES PATTERN COLOR. THE BACKGROUND MATERIAL OF NAME TAPES, SHOULDER SLEEVE INSIGNIA, TABS, GRADE INSIGNIA, FORMER WARTIME SERVICE, AND SEW-ON BADGES WILL MATCH THE CAMOUFLAGE PATTERN OF THE UNIFORM."

So no, you cannot mix and match patches, name tapes etc.
