1987 – Jonathan Pollard pleads guilty to espionage for selling top-secret U.S. military intelligence information to Israel.
The former Navy intelligence analyst sold enough classified documents to fill a medium-sized room. Pollard was arrested in November 1985 after authorities learned that he had been meeting with Israeli agents every two weeks for the last year. He was paid approximately $50,000 for the highly sensitive documents and expected to receive as much as $300,000 in a secret Swiss bank account.
The top-secret information included satellite photos and data on Soviet weapons. Pollard was sentenced to life in prison while his wife Anne received a five-year sentence for being an accessory to the crimes.
The discovery of his betrayal put a chill on the relationship between the U.S. and Israel. Viewing the U.S. as its ally, Israel believed that the information should have been passed along anyway. But the fact that some Israeli agents remained in high positions despite their involvement in the espionage angered the United States. Israel has since stuck by Pollard.
During peace negotiations mediated by President Clinton in the late 1990s, the nation has made Pollard’s release from prison a key point. However, the United States has declined to work out such a deal.

Ah, Part of my Community History. I'm quite familiar with this Jackass and between him and the Attack on the USS Liberty, I am none to impressed with our "Ally" Israel, 34 of my Fellow CTs dead, 171 Injured.

Yeah you are right, not saying you are wrong. But its kind of frustrating that really, Israel is only ever defined as a staunch ally and friend. All the time. The Big O (Mr. Obama) has been the only one in recent years to even somewhat break ranks with Israel, and how much does he really change the tune? Not much, and even he still treats with Israel as a total buddy.

I can't forget these things. My Instructors in Cryptologic School were the Survivors of the Liberty. When the book "The Falcon and the Snowman" came out it was the first time I was told that "You can not add to, detract from, If asked you response is "No Comment"". When the book "The Puzzle Palace" came out was the Second Time. Since I was a Naval Communicator when they arrested Johnny Walker I got called in with every Naval Communicator for a lovely sit down with NIS and I was the Naval Communicator that handled the Debrief Messages for the Spy Sgt Clayton Lonetree!

Isn't Israel our staunchest ally in the Middle East? Why would this be a big deal? Aren't they our friends?
Just saying.
Just saying.
