For the longest time I had no clue what DTMS was, mostly because my units never used the system. I recently went through the course and found that it was pretty useful. Do your units use this system? Do you find that it's another system we have that is useless?

DTMS is an invaluable tool. Unfortunately, some Commands are rather "slow" in promoting/enforcing use of it. Utilization of DTMS helps to streamline training and make it easier to accomplish. Seems most Commands are scared of using it because it makes the unit/command "transparent"...as to what they are REALLY doing in regards to training, etc.

The DTMS program, although requiring massive amounts of bandwidth, is a tool seldom used. It requires attention to detail, the knowledge of the units METL and CATS, and is a massive time sink in order to do it properly.
However, once you've built a template for your routine events, it is just a matter of modifying/adding events that need to be annotated. It gets faster the more some uses it.
It is a great system, and required IAW AR 350-1. Simple, but unfortunately not easy.

DTMS is a great tool for units to use if properly used it helps in many ways, you just need to take the time to learn all that you can do. I used it in the Joint world and had no problems.

Roger That SGT, it is a requirement in the MEDCOM that all units use the program. It is actually very useful. Good Luck getting the inputs from the sections and even the individuals it calls for in a timely manner.

MSG Hendricks,
It has been a challenge here getting it done, but we have finally made some progress. Our unit is in a middle of an expansion and some of our companies are splitting. It was creating all sorts of issues to add training and track actual trained personnel. We still have work to do, but it's getting there.
I'm surprised there isn't a bigger push for it in some units, this system makes things so much easier. Everyone wants to recreate the wheel with calendars, rosters, tracking training.. etc; when it's all in one system.
