As US Marines and ARVN troops mount a joint operation against Vietcong forces in the vicinity of Chulai Air Base, they are supported by shells fired from the USS Canberra offshore.
The first contingent of Australian combat troops arrives by plane in Saigon. They will join the US 173rd Airborne Brigade at the Bienhoa air base. 400 more Australian combat troops will arrive by ship on 8 June.

June 2, 1971. I had just finished the AMMED Officers' Advanced Course at Fort Sam Houston, TX. And had orders for Vietnam.

I wasn't even a twinkle in my parents' eyes yet. My folks were still kids at that point, but my Uncle Johnny was over in Vietnam giving them hell (as far as I know).
