Army Family Advocacy Program - Advice / Experience?

There's a former Soldier seeking advice about the AFAP.

Having no experience with the program, I thought I'd tap into RP.

Some questions so far:
° Does the family have to participate with AFAP? On post or off post make a difference?

° What about the SM?

° Do Article 31 rights apply if nothing has been formally charged?

° In discussions with others, supposedly some horror stories about AFAP and their efforts. Have you found this to be true?
