When I was much younger just enough to get by . . . though I visited a few guys here and there who not only copied code . . . but recorded soviet test vehicle downlinks . . . they got real quiet whenever a test vehicle downlink transmitter failed to start sending on launch. . . apparently everyone thought this may be the first sign of a live bird during initial boost phase.
