I served 7 years active duty and I’m currently a DOD civilian. I been talking to a recruiter about coming back in the service. I will have a year of federal service as a DOD civilian in December. If I come back into the service, will the time as a DOD civilian roll over to the military? Thanks!

No. Only military time counts as military time, but military time can be added to Federal civilian time if you do the buyback.

You can buy back your military time into your civilian retirement but it doesn't work the other way.

Nope. Your military service time is separate and cannot be transferred to military service. Now if you separate from the military or go to the reserves/guard then you can buy back your active duty time towards your civilian retirement and I would strongly suggest you do so as it’s cheap to do compared the amount of credit you get towards your civilian federal service time.
