A five day running battle begins in Quangngai Province.
Vietcong forces ambush a battalion of ARVN troops near Bagia and reinforcements are called for. The US Marine battalion fails to arrive in time and other ARVN reinforcements are also ambushed.
Only 3 US advisors and about 60 ARVN troops manage to get away. The battle instills a sense of urgency in US military leaders, as it reveals how vulnerable the South Vietnamese military remains facing a sizable and flexible Communist force.

I was on shore duty with VF124 the f14 RAG as A FRAMP instructor. I was on sea duty from 1969-1973 and had the full Vietnam experience.

Well, SPC Jan Allbright, M.Sc., R.S., I was in class at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, FL, completing my sophomore year there! Weather records indicate that the high temperature that day was 93 degrees, and despite the heat, we had .25" of rain and thunderstorms. It may have been sunny in Vietnam, but that was not the case in Jacksonville!
Very sad story about 28MAY65 in Vietnam.

I wasn't born for another 9 years and my parents hadn't even met yet! My dad was already an honorably discharged veteran at the time (US Navy 1959-1962) so he was "safe" from the draft.
