Here are 10 subjects AP suggests you should know today.
And here are my opinions:
1. OF COURSE the POTUS is not going to send ground troops to the Iraqi region. That would show incompetence. His promises of withdrawal and his EGO has left us with a huge mess for the next POTUS to clean up.
2. Prayers for those affected by the flood waters. Longview has been hit hard as well, but not as hard as the other areas.
3. How do you suspect installing video camera's would make the rail operator of a train more capable, or competent, or more responsible? Not getting it.
4. Fraudulent Tax Refunds!! Are you safe? Am I? When did they find out about this? The IRS is a big mess that needs to be fixed and fast. It's absolutely ridiculous.
5. He obsessed about it, he knew it was wrong, he cased the building, he bought the materials, he looked up how to act insane... James Holmes is GUILTY
6. Does anyone have more info about the all-night siege that happened in Kabul??
7. and 8. Really, no comment.
9. At least he didn't ask the arresting officer "Do you know who I am?".
10. Not a big Tennis fan... Eh
Anyways, what are your thoughts about the top 10? Should other subjects be put in this list? What subjects could you have gone without knowing?

1. US STAYING THE COURSE, DESPITE GAINS BY ISLAMIC STATE EXTREMISTS
Good, it's not our problem.
2. HOUSTON AMONG STORM'S CHIEF VICTIMS
Thoughts and prayers to the victims. Why isn't there infrastructure in place to prevent this mess?
3. HOW AMTRAK IS RESPONDING TO DEADLY DERAILMENT
Accountability is a good first step.
4. IRS: THIEVES GOT ACCESS TO 100,000 TAX RETURNS
Modernization costs money, I can understand that people don't want to spend the money necessary to move the IRS into the 21st century... however, how much is all that fraud going to cost us?
5. COLORADO THEATER SHOOTER'S NOTEBOOK DESCRIBES 'OBSESSION TO KILL' SINCE CHILDHOOD
Sounds like it proves that he was insane for a very long time and family, schools and others were negligent in identifying a ticking time bomb.
6. GUNFIRE, EXPLOSIONS ERUPT IN AFGHANISTAN'S CAPITAL
We either need to own Afghanistan and all it's issues for the next few decades, or we need to wash our hands of them.
7. WHAT'S DRIVING CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS' ACQUISITION OF TIME WARNER CABLE
All of our media is already controlled by just a handful of corporations, we need the empires to be broken up... not more consolidation.
8. TACO BELL, PIZZA HUT GETTING RID OF ARTIFICIAL COLORS, FLAVORS
Good, the healthier we eat the better.
9. ACTOR, PLAYWRIGHT ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF DRUNKEN DRIVING
Why is this national news?
10. WHICH AMERICAN IS OFF TO RUNNING START AT FRENCH OPEN
Yawn.
What about:
1. The NATO exercise in Northern Europe... how is Russia responding to that little poke in the eye?
2. Taliban peace talks in China?
3. Justice department arrests of high level FIFA officials?
4. 10's of thousands displaced by violence in Central African Republic?
5. Rise in West African Drug Trade funding terror groups?
Good, it's not our problem.

MAJ Ken Landgren
A good way of measuring the strength of a country is how good is the government at supporting its people. How strong is the military? How passionate is the people about their country? All three get a thumbs down.

SGT (Join to see) I honestly believe we had no business being there in the first place. You can no leave a place you do not belong too early. The right approach is to support local nation states and organizations in the region, not to fight their wars for them.
China owns a lot of debt... however roughly 2/3rds of our debt is held domestically. I believe China is holding about 1.25 trillion, Japan is holding a few billion less than that... Belgium comes in 3rd with roughly 336 Billion.

MAJ Ken Landgren I would say good measures are the amount of liberty and opportunity people enjoy and the self sufficiency of the nation. On the first a big thumbs up, more people enjoy liberty today than ever before, even though we still have a lot of work to do... On the second a marginal thumbs up. There is still a lot of opportunity, however higher education is becoming more costly and difficult to obtain, and the middle class remains in decline.
As for the last, another thumbs up: We produce enough food to feed ourselves, and we are more energy independent than we have been in a very long time, we need to keep working to become more independent... and less reliant on foreign oil and junk from China.
It all comes down the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that matter most to you.

We were there, the war was over... the Iraqi government basically told us to not let the door hit our backside on the way out. Staying in Iraq to support a government that didn't want us there would have been wrong.

"How do you suspect installing video camera's would make the rail operator of a train more capable, or competent, or more responsible? Not getting it." Quality assurance. Coach or replace bad operators. Encourage operators to act appropriately at all times.
"His promises of withdrawal and his EGO has left us with a huge mess for the next POTUS to clean up." I'm getting deja vu.

Accountability is always a good way to start off a tragic situation. I can see it possibly showing bad operators or what they might be doing. Honestly I can't believe they haven't had cams in there.

You say that, but my only experience regarding medical records and inventory tracking was with the army (a crash-course to be sure. I'm a medic, not a supply specialist). Yet, I was amazed at how awful the person before me did this job. The people who hired me weren't even sure how this job should be done. Sometimes those common sense ideas just don't happen until the right person gets there, or the wrong thing happens. Tragically, transportation agencies are not immune.
