Very little is taught in high school about personal finance beyond the minimal basics. There is a lot to learn about budgeting, managing a checking account and learning about short term and long term savings. I have actually volunteered in other schools and through base family support centers to teach on personal finance. Now being in Tampa, Florida for 4 months I am looking to pick that up again to further educate our military and students locally.
Volunteering with where your heart is or something you are passionate for is a great way to give back to your community

I wholeheartedly agree. High school economics taught me that I never want to become in the stock market. My brother just graduated and I had to teach him how to write a check, that you need to write a deposit slip when you go to the bank, and showed him my paycheck to see how much is taken out for taxes. Your volunteerism is a great way to help out as it is a necessary skill for everyone.

Being in the national guard i have a better opportunity to do things like this than most of my active duty brethren. I see a lot of younger people 15+ that are already starting down the wrong road and trying meth and abusing alcohol. Id like to try and start an afterschool program or something of the sort to show these kids an alternative route in life
