Over the last 40 years or so, what independent presidential candidate had the greatest influence on the election? If you had the money and resources to run for office, yet you knew you could not actually win, would you attempt it? I believe Ross Perot's 1992 run for office actually affected the outcome, not only back then but it had a ripple effect on politics ever since then. What say you?

Honestly? Have ANY of them?? Granted I can't go back 40 years, but I don't recall any independent who made a serious bid for the White House. Of course, that is also what I think is a big part of the problem in this country --- why does it have to be Democrat or Republican?

Good old Ross Perot, until the two party system threatened his family and had to drop out!
