Catch-22: Highlights military absurdity. One of my top recommendations for anyone who has been in for a few years. (fiction)

Rising Sons: Discusses Japanese Americans in the US Army in WWII. This could serious be used to jump start an entire day of GOOD, PRODUCTIVE EO/diversity discussions. (nonfiction)

We Were Soldiers Once, and Young: A good luck at the unbelievable heroism, stupidity, valor, leadership, and sacrifice of a unit in Vietnam. Has since been made into a movie starring Mel Gibson, however the book is FAR more expansive and immersive. (nonfiction)

Blackhearts: A much more recent look at war, involving a BDE in Iraq and how things went very VERY wrong within the unit culture, and the atrocious results. Has been used at least once by West Point to discuss leadership. (nonfiction)

Ender's Game: Futuristic look at war in space. It may seem absurd on this list, but if you remove the sci-fi facade and look at the leadership traits and tactics, it is actually a decent military book . The movie was crap, though - don't judge the book by the movie. (fiction)

Starship Troopers: Again - don't judge the book by the movie. Also futuristic sci-fi, but also good military stuff. (fiction)

War in a Time of Peace: A look at the end of the Cold War and how that influenced Yugoslavia and how the situations in Kosovo and Bosnia were allowed to happen by an apathetic world. A bit drier than the others on the list (and longer) but was absolutely fascinating for me. (Nonfiction)

Terminal List: Good tactics, great story
Band of Brothers: Very inspiring, classic
Cant Hurt Me: if you read this and do all the steps you will be a 30% better version of your self. I recommend the Audio book version for the commentary by the author.

If you want I can talk about the military and concepts. Perhaps give you one lesson a day. That is if you want to learn about the strategic aspects of war. Unfortunately younger enlisted and young officers are not taught. For example I can talk about the Revolution In Military Affairs (RMA). They are technology or doctrine a military devlop for future wars to give a military an advantage. In WWII the RMAs were aircraft carriers, panzers, blitzkrieg, P-51s, amphibious landings, and the atomic bombs, there are others like sonar and the other one, I cant remember because I only got 3 hours of sleep last night.
