How is life in 2CR Vilseck, Germany?

I am currently in Vilseck. The lifestyle is a good pace with lots of training & field exercises plenty of room to grow & apply yourself as well as travel especially once the covid is finally over. Depending on who you are attached to etc will determine your barracks. You can be in a room with a roomate or a room by yourself which is what I had the past three years.

The education center is great with good communication. Within four months of being stationed in Vilseck I started my masters degree in Cybersecurity with the University of Maryland Global Campus online October 2018 and completed it in May 2020. They have multiple universities at the education center that are available to help you find what certifications, degree programs etc you want to take. Use tuition assistance every year, so many resources that are available to be used and save your GI Bill. The other colleges available are Central Texas College (CTC), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) and the University of Oklahoma (OU).
They offer classes online and in person.

Not hard at all the obtain your USAREUR drivers license. You will take a test on JKO online or in person I recommend taking it online. If you fail the online test they make you take it in person. Use quizlet to help you study. Basically all the answers are on there.

Expect to learn a lot about your squadron/unit/MOS etc as well as German/European life which is pretty dope. Respect their culture and people. Get your passport before arriving in Germany. Once your able to travel again after covid travel and explore Europe it’s beautiful. Don’t just drink your life away in the barracks. They offer so many discounted travel programs, community services events, single/marriage retreats you can be apart of & get involved in; live life to the fullest. Go to Volksfest, Oktoberfest all the festivals etc. I enjoyed my time in Germany traveling was my escape outside of work I’ve been to 20 different countries. Your time there is determined by you & how you make it out to be. Gonna be times work sucks and being in the field may be trash but gotta keep it pushing keep your head up and stay grinding never being stagnant.

I was last there 9 years ago, but here's some tid bits:
barracks are barracks. Usually 2 to a room, they're not vietnam barracks, but they don't have elevators, we also had storage lockers on the 5th floor.
The town of Vilseck is nearby as well as the train station which can take you literally anywhere in Europe. Nuremberg is only 45 minutes by train, soldiers frequently go there for the weekends, especially long ones.
If you want to travel to nearby countries (I highly suggest this) spend the money to get a passport, it's $100 something and good for 10 years, totally worth the travel opportunity.
Getting an international drivers license to drive throughout Europe is not difficult, but does require a little work. Passing the test to drive in Germany can be a bit of work, so study it when you get the material, a lot of people do fail because they get cocky.
Try all the restaurants. I tried margharita pizza in every country I visited, always different. I also tried mcdonalds in every country because it was way better over there.
Don't be a barracks rat. Find someone and travel!

I'm no longer in Germany

What can I expect from the lifestyle, how are the barracks? The barracks are not the best ones but depend on the battalion you can get the worst

What are some colleges nearby that I can attend?

How hard is it to attain a German license.?
Is a JKO Class for that and you can get it done way before you get there

What should I expect upon arrival at the unit?
Some NCO is not really helpful, but get with your battles they will get you square away really fast
