Coming from the perspective of a future recruit who hasn’t taken the ASVAB yet, I hate the idea of being naive when I go to basic. What was the biggest shock or change you needed to make in basic?

That everyone is naive and nothing is like you thought it would be

That's probably the best most spot on response with the fewest possible words.

Nothing was a shock to me. Expect this:
- You will be stressed
- Tired
- Hungry
- Sleepy
- Do lots of push ups
- Physcially pushed
- Lock up your valuables when you take a shower because someone will steal from you.

Everyone is naïve in some respect when entering the military. You need to go in with the expectation that you will continually be exposed to new experiences and change will be the only real constant for the foreseeable future. Don't overthink it. Prepare yourself the best you and your recruiters can but don't think you will know everything or check every box along the way.

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
